A warning that the Police are out in Dukes Avenue again today (10am on Tuesday 13th) with a mobile speed camera. Must be a very lucrative operation.

A very necessary operation! I wish they'd do it more often. There's too much speeding down Dukes Avenue. Motor scooter deliveries are frequent offenders.

If you are not speeding then you have no need to worry.

It's OK 'cos when I suggested many such roads in and around Chiswick have a speeding problem I was told there are no speeding problems!

It's a shame that those static cameras that tell you your speed are so very expensive to buy, install and maintain! There are always plenty of traffic calming measures that need extra funding.

The speed warning cameras are really only effective for 'unconscious speeders', not the majority who don't give a damn as to what they're doing. As for mobile cameras on Dukes Avenue, bring them on - the more the merrier.

Agee that more is needed all over but it should also be something that everyone whatever they are riding ior driving recklessly can be caught speeding with! Long straight roads can tempt self-centred people nominally in charge of dangerous metal to speed and not pay enough attention to anything else happening in the bigger picture around them.

If only speed limits applied to pedal cycles.....

I wonder how many cyclists kill children on our roads versus motorists.
There's nothing to stop cyclists having speedometers and of course the law should be changed to include them in speed limits instead of just relying on being able to prove they were cycling recklessly - or has that changed now? A lot of them don't even look where they are going they have their heads down... as if they ARE on a race track. I think that in other countries there are more sit-up-and-beg pedal cycles.
Strangely there doesn't seem to be any statistics on that specific question. However I imagine it would be fairly small number.

In the Netherlands where cyclists tend to be far more law abiding and policing enforcement actually visible the 20 kilometre per hour cycle speed limit is rigidly enforced in most areas. In addition there are rolling speed tests for electric bikes on most cycles super highways. Electric bikes that exceed the limit are confiscated until restricted and a significant fine is paid. University town of Utrecht is trialing compulsory registration for bikes.

I saw the police officers when they were on Dukes Avenue. There is a problem with speeding on this road but it is at the southern end where there are fewer parked cars. At the north end, pinch points are created which slows traffic down. Someone might nudge over the speed limit if they wanted to avoid delaying someone who had given way for them but generally it is difficult to get over 10mph let alone 20 when the road is busy. The police used these cameras on The Avenue some time ago but I think drivers were issued with warning letters rather than fines.
