The Climate Change Act was voted through Parliament in 2008 by a majority of all the parties.  There have been people actively transitioning their homes  and businesses away from fossil fuels and making these more sustainable for tens of years.  Oil and gas companies in the UK have been charging us extra because they were tasked and expected by Govt to be doing more to make sure that our homes were insulated so that we used less and less energy to heat and cool and light them.  Extinction Rebellion in frustration at the lack of progress made a nuisance of themselves so that the problem over our reliance on huge amounts of imported oil and gas gained even more attention from everyone. But it has proved that it isn't that easy to insulate so many of our "oldest and leakiest buildings in Europe" as some of the Govt sponsored attempts have shown.  Reducing our dependence and need for oil and gas continues but like lemmings heading towards a cliff the determination to carry on as if nothing was happening has so often been the disappointing result. We don't set the price for all the fuel we use it depends on  the markets.  The disruption in the Strait of Hormuz was not of our making.  What we have in the North Sea is sold on the  global market.  Our Govt can raise and lower our taxes here.https://www.lse.ac.uk/granthaminstitute/news/badenoch-makes-false-claims-in-attack-on-climate-change-act/In fact we have a much greater amount of alternative energy being used now.  It takes more than a Govt to make changes.  Unfortunately in our mainly two party system we have to be able to see past all the subsidies and little sweeteners offered whoever is in power. We still need to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.  The last 11 years have been the hottest on record:https://news.un.org/en/story/2026/01/1166758
